    Believe.

    May 30th, 2007

Ok, let’s just get it off our chests: it sucks that we are down 2 games right now. Period.

But something that is more disappointing is the lack of faith and attitudes displayed by some of the fans down on the Mile tonight.

First of all - the guys who thought causing a fight would be cool… don’t do it. It’s not. Guess what boys, everyone is unhappy we’re down a couple games, but displays of testosterone from you and your pals aren’t going to change that. Fans in this City need to continue demonstrating to the rest of the country that we can both celebrate our wins and mourn our losses within the bounds of legality and respect for others. Our team has class and respect — let’s make sure the fans continue to do so as well. In everything we do please respect the City, the police, the residents, other fans and - most importantly - the Sens. The entire country is watching, let’s show some dignity.

Second, the griping. Sure, it’s true, alot of people in this town are “Johnny-come-lately” fans, but cripes, start believing in your team. They’re coming home for games on Saturdays and Mondays. If there was ever a time for you to support your team, it is NOW.

This is what the fans need to do:

Saturday - rain or shine - get yourselves out to the Sens Mile on Elgin or the Red Zone at Scotiabank Place. Deck yourselves out, paint yourselves red, cheer yourself hoarse… let the guys know our faith in them hasn’t wavered.

Monday - rain or shine - do the same thing as above.

Cheer. Hard. Make the guys hear you inside Scotiabank Place. The team needs us right now and the fans need to step up.

That Cup is coming back to Ottawa and all of us know it.

Ottawa will take this series in 7 games.

The fans need to start believing.

    Now.

Where to go for Game 2??

    May 29th, 2007

Some of you have written the organizers personally or posted on the Facebook group that you want to know where, exactly, on the Sens Mile to go for game night.

So, to help you out, here are a list of the bars and restaurants (supporters) of the Mile who have big screens tvs, ample room and open doors for game night… by the way, get there early, the Mile is growing - FAST - and seats are scarce:

    - St. Louis Bar and Grill (corner of Elgin/Gladstone)
    - Dunn’s on Elgin Street (between Lisgar and Cooper)
    - Big Daddy’s Crab Shack (corner of Elgin and Waverley)
    - The Standard Luxury Tavern (by the corner of Elgin and Frank)
    - Mayflower (corner of Elgin and Cooper)
    - Lieutenant’s Pump (corner of Elgin and Waverley)
    - Nine Nightclub (by the corner of Elgin and Frank, 360 Elgin Street, upstairs)
    - Woody’s (by the corner of Elgin and Lewis)
    - Fox and Feather (corner of MacLaren and Elgin)
    - Privilege Night Club (corner of Gladstone and Elgin)
    - Sin Night Club (corner of Gladstone and Elgin)
    - Maxwell’s (by the corner of Elgin and Lewis)
    - Griffin’s (corner of Elgin and MacLaren)
    - MacLaren’s (corner of Elgin and MacLaren)
    - Hooley’s and the Bytowne Tavern (corner of Elgin and MacLaren)

Again, get there early! The Mile is alive!!

Party hard but responsibly and have faith — the boys will win this in 6 games.

    Keep the faith

    May 28th, 2007

If I hear one more Senator fan gripe because we lost a nailbiter tonight and then whine that this is the end of the road, I’m going to punch them out.

First of all: the guys played hard out there. Period. A crappy goal, a giveaway and that was the game.

You watch next game, the Sens are going to take it, and win 2 at home.

    Wait. Have faith. Believe.

The Cup is ours — it’ll just take us 4 or 5 more games to get there.

On another note, the Mile was ALIVE tonight. Kudos to the Mayor for the “Sens Mile” street signs up along Elgin. Kudos to the fans who watched - even when they couldn’t get in - from the road. Kudos to the police for doing an amazing job keeping order.

See you there Wednesday — it’s going to be great!

    The Not-So-Hot 89.9

    May 28th, 2007

    thumbs_down.gif

You knew there had to be one naysayer in Ottawa right now, dumping on the idea of the Sens Mile.

But would you ever think it would be the station that styles itself as the hippest station in the valley? Us either.

However, Hot 89.9 is anti-Sens Mile, and that’s just fine with us.

The following stations (both TV and radio) have been - and are - extremely supportive of the Mile:

    - 105.3 Kiss FM
    - Chez 106
    - RDS
    - TVA
    - Y101
    - 106.9 The Bear
    - The Team 1200
    - CBC Radio
    - CBC TV
    - CTV (including CJOH)
    - A Channel
    - CFRA
    - Global

Which station should you listen to or watch? That’s not for us to say… but I do know that when it comes to fan support, I’d be choosing one of the above versus the naysayers at 89.9.

    Hot? We think not.

    What’s happening on the Mile…

    May 27th, 2007

Unfortunately, the City of Ottawa has decided not to put jumbotrons along Elgin Street! (Are you really THAT surprised?!)

BUT… thankfully, we have an amazingly supportive business community who have big screen tvs at the ready, ample space to host the fans and an amazing atmosphere to celebrate.

Where should you go on game night, you ask? Well, check out the “Supporters” list to see which businesses are doing their part to make the Mile come alive for each and every game night.

For our part, the organizers of the Sens Mile go to St. Louis Bar and Grill. It is kinda like our homebase… the food is great, the staff amazing and the game night atmosphere is awesome.

That said, all the bars and restaurants listed in the supporters section are second-to-none, have great food and are pulling out all the stops to show the patrons a kick-ass time.

    See you on the Mile!!!!

The Sens Mile - Game 1

    May 27th, 2007

    stanley_cup.jpg

Alright everyone… it’s time… time for the City, time for the fans and time for the team to bring home the Stanley Cup… and it starts tomorrow, in Anaheim.

Be down on the Sens Mile, pile in to the bars and restaurants, wear your Sens gear, paint yourselves red and bring your duck whistles and blow them - hard- whenever the Ducks get a penalty or when we score against them.

Win or lose, we celebrate post-game along the Mile, but we do so while respecting the fans, the residents, the police, the City and - above all - our guys who are showing tremendous class and dignity on the ice.

We want to show the guys and the whole of Canada that Sens fans are second-to-none in their support of the team, but that we can do so in a way that respects everyone and everything.  (Hold off on the parade until the Cup is won… only 4 or 5 games until that happens…)

    So… 8pm… the Mile… be there….

    The quest has begun!

    Fans, businesses, Canadians:

Donate to the Elgin Fraser Fund by visiting any Scotiabank location in Ottawa or across Canada, or by visiting the Ottawa Senators Foundation website.

The biggest little Sens fan, 3-year old Elgin, lost his battle with cancer on May 19, 2007, after watching his favorite team the Ottawa Senators win a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals.

In remembrance of this special little guy, we are asking all fans, businesses and Canadians to donate generously.

The funds raised through this initiative will help to prevent another boy or girl from suffering from childhood cancer and, perhaps, move us closer to a cure.

Mayor Gives Green Light to Sens Mile on Elgin

    May 23rd, 2007

An Ottawa Sun article has confirmed…the mayor is in!!!

The Sens Mile has been given the green light and will stretch along Elgin St. and into the Byward Market during every game. The city is arranging for at least two jumbo television screens to be set up along the stretch and are planning for an additional one at City Hall.
